A special meeting was held August 21 to count the votes to approve or reject a 10 year extension of the Preston Commons Homeowner's Association and deed restrictions. A third party from the Northland Community Council opened the ballots and facilitated the counting of them. As a result, our residents approved the 10 year extension of the HOA / deed restrictions for the period of January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2035.
Here are the detailed results of the voting (only one vote was permitted per household):
85 approved the extension
2 rejected the extension
54 did not submit a ballot
A 51% majority vote (72 of the 141 homes) was needed to determine the outcome. With 85 of 141 households voting to extend the HOA / deed restrictions, that was a 60% majority vote to approve the extension.
Thank you to the residents who took the time to vote on this very important issue and to the board members who worked very hard to get this ballot and voting process executed.

The streets and street lights within our neighborhood are maintained by the City of Columbus. Columbus is responsible for paving, patching, and snow removal. Since they do not usually get around to our neighborhood quickly for snow removal, we can use our homeowner dues to pay for snow removal when total accumulation exceeds 4" or when major icing occurs to protect our residents. To report a street light out, please call the City of Columbus at 311.
The State of Ohio has committed funding to support necessary infrastructure enhancements due to the new Intel facility. Notably, a share of this funding will be used to expand a portion of State Route 161, something many expressway users desired for years. ODOT will make $112 million worth of improvements to State Route 161 in eastern Franklin County and Western Licking County. One project will add one lane in each direction of SR 161 from 270 to just east of US 62. ODOT says that work can be done within the existing footprint of the highway. Because capacity is being added, ODOT says it will look into whether a noise wall will be needed. Another ODOT project will widen the ramp from 161 west to I-270 north/west. ODOT will also improve the Mink Street interchange to connect with the improvements on local roads. ODOT plans to begin construction in July 2023 and have the additional lanes open by November 2024. Final completion is expected by August 2025. This project will include a public involvement process and an opportunity to provide public comment. The Ohio Department of Transportation received a majority of YES votes for a proposed noise wall from the 24 Preston Commons residents eligible to vote (20 of 24 voted in favor of a wall). The wall will be constructed winter 2024/2025. Part of the wall will be 18' tall and closer our homes, and the other will be 6'7 concrete sections directly next to the freeway.
