All external home improvements must fall within the rules of the Preston Commons deed restrictions and need to get prior approval from the homeowners' association and depending on the project, possibly the City of Columbus. Please check before building decks and patios, adding solar panels, painting siding, or replacing roofs, siding, shutters, and trees. Your cooperation will keep our neighborhood looking uniform and aesthetically appealing as it was set out to be upon conception.
A few of the regulations are listed below, and detailed documentation is listed on the "Documents" page of this web site.
* All mailboxes are to be of uniform appearance (see Mailbox Upkeep Replacement)
* All driveways are to be paved with asphalt
* All shingles must be the color "Weatherwood"
* Siding to remain a color standard in the neighborhood
* Shutters to be one of two styles originally in neighborhood (see Shutters section on this page)
* Siding to be color consistent with neighborhood
* No fences
* No sheds
* No in-ground or large swimming pools permitted
* Solar panels must be approved and placed on the back of the roof if approved
Mailboxes in Preston Commons are to be uniform in appearance. Below is a list of acceptable parts and where to purchase them.

Gibraltar Industries, Large Solar T2 Green, Model E1600G00 Hartford Green (can be ordered from Home Depot, Lowes or Menards they do not stock this color, sometimes Meijer stocks this color)

- HY-KO Products Company, Boat Numbers and Letters, Package 154 Numbers, Letters & Symbols, 3' High, Self -Adhesive (Meijer seems to be the only local store) Template to apply numbers - Contact the PCHA Hardware - (Can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, any hardware store )
PAINT FOR POLE:
Rust-Oleum, Gloss Protective Enamel Spray Paint, Hunter Green (Can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowes, Menards any hardware store)
POLE REPLACEMENT:
If you need to replace the pole, Suburban Steel carries these 3 1/2" poles with welded 8' x 19" plate for about $105.00 ( they are special order and it might be a good idea to take the old one to them) They are at www.suburbansteelsupply.com , 614.737.5501 1900 Deffenbaugh Ct. Gahanna. It comes primer gray.
INSTALLATION TIPS:
Remove the original mailbox. Sand the mailbox post. Refinish the post with green Rust-oleum. Using Template attach numbers. Mount mailbox. NOTE: If your mailbox is mounted on plywood, the old wood should be replaced with a new painted wood piece or mailbox can be mounted directly to plate using nuts and bolts.
* All grass, trees, shrubs, flowers and plantings of any kind must be well-maintained. The City of Columbus also has regulations on how high grass and weeds are allowed to get. If you are unable to maintain your landscaping yourself you will need to hire someone or find a volunteer to do so.
* Keep tree limbs over sidewalks trimmed to allow pedestrians safe clearance.
* Trash and recycling cans are to be kept out of open view.
* Sidewalk repairs in front of each home are the responsibility of the homeowner.
* Homeowners are required to keep the sidewalks in front of their home free from snow and ice per Columbus City Code.
Shutters are to be one of these two options (flat or louver style) and be a tasteful color that blends in with the neighborhood.
Parking of trailers, boats, and recreation vehicles are only permitted up to 48 hours within a 30 day period in your driveway per our deed restrictions. The City of Columbus has very strict regulations against such parking on any of our neighborhood streets as well (see below). Please store all trailers, boats, and recreational vehicles in your garage or somewhere out of the neighborhood. Thank you for your cooperation. Below are some of the notable Columbus City codes regarding parking on our neighborhood streets:
2151.20 Limitations on truck, bus and trailer parking.
"(a) No owner or driver of a truck, bus, tractor, trailer, semitrailer or house vehicle shall park or stand such vehicle on any street for a period longer than one (1) hour. However, this section shall not apply to trucks or trailers used for conveying the necessary tools and materials to premises where labor, using such tools and materials, is to be performed during the actual time of parking such trucks or trailers, nor to motor trucks or buses conveying passengers to any public meeting, assembly, church, convention or entertainment during the actual session of any such public meeting, assembly, church, convention or entertainment, nor to the actual time during which a motor truck, motor truck tractor, trailer or semitrailer is being loaded or unloaded or used to deliver or hoist property or merchandise for completion of delivery. (b) A violation of this section constitutes the commission of a parking infraction to be handled pursuant to and governed by the provisions of Chapter 2150. (Ord. 3440-86: Ord. 2120-03 � 1 (part).)"
2151.09 Maximum continuous street parking in same location.
"(a) No person who is the owner, agent, operator or other person in charge of any vehicle shall permit such vehicle to remain parked, standing, or abandoned upon any street for a continuous period longer than seventy-two (72) hours. This section shall not be construed as affecting any other parking regulation now in effect or that may hereafter become effective but shall be construed as an additional parking limitation. Likewise, the impounding procedures of vehicles on any freeway, expressway or accessway are not affected by this section. The purpose of this section is to prohibit continuous long-time parking and the storage of vehicles on city streets. (b) A violation of this section constitutes the commission of a parking infraction to be handled pursuant to and governed by the provisions of Chapter 2150. (Ord. 1445-80: Ord. 2120-03 � 1 (part).)"
2151.24 Prohibition against leaving junk motor vehicles on private property.
"No person shall leave a junk motor vehicle as defined in Section 2101.56 on private property for more than seventy-two (72) hours. This prohibition is effective even if the person with the right to possession of the property has given consent or if the person leaving such vehicle owns, leases or otherwise lawfully possesses the property upon which the vehicle is parked. (Ord. 0787-02 � 5.)"
